The Country Wife by William Wycherley tells the story of Horner, a notorious man-about-town and his ingenious scheme for the rampant and mass seduction of the women of London society. By spreading the false rumour of his own impotence, he gains the sympathy of the husbands of the town and, more importantly, free access to their wives. Meanwhile the newly-married Pinchwife desperately attempts to keep his naïve country bride from the clutches of predatory London bachelors. When she and Horner meet, events spiral out of control.

Evelyn and Peter have a wonderful marriage. A test of their unwavering love comes in the form of an illness, robbing Evelyn of her identity. Meanwhile, a chance encounter finds their daughter Sally in a bathroom cubicle with Grace. The heartbreaking yet sometimes humorous journey through Evelyn’s decline forces Sally to re-evaluate her views on love, marriage and the traditional love story.

‘A funny, sad, deeply felt play about love, commitment, families and old age written with a light, wry touch that is also capable of great emotional truth.’ Daily Telegraph

‘Funny, frank and churning by turns, this struck me as a lyrical play about the unlyrical business of coping when real life knocks on the door’ Daily Express

‘A play that soars ……… wonderful’ Guardian
Doors open a half hour before the performance starts
You are invited to purchase tickets at £6.50 each (including refreshments)

If you would like any flyers please contact the Secretary.
We look forward to seeing you. Thank you for your continued support.

Farnborough Dramatic Society, “Under Milk Wood”

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

Halstead Players and Farnborough Dramatic Society are planning a joint venture – a rehearsed reading of “Under Milk Wood”.

Firstly we need to see if we have enough people interested so there will be a meeting and reading at Halstead Village Church at 7.30 pm on Monday 3rd May. If there is not enough interest then the event will be shelved. There will be one performance at Halstead Village Church and probably another at Farnborough Village Hall mid July – no firm dates have been fixed yet. Everything is open to suggestions. There will probably be 5 or 6 rehearsals on Tuesdays during June/July.

Anyone interested please just turn up at Halstead Church on 3rd May. If you cannot make that date but would be interested in being involved please contact Wendy McDonnell on 0789 0000761.
